Chapel Hill Photo's

Chapel Hill Golf Course (Sept 2003)- McHenry / Johnsburg, Illinois.  The Chapel on Chapel Hill Golf Course was built by my Great Great Great Grandfather, Frederick Schmitt.

The Text on the Plaque:

"Traveling from Germany in 1843, Fred Schmitt was crossing the ocean seas for ninety days in a terrible storm.

 He then made a vow to the Blessed Virgin Mary, should he arrive safely with his family he would build her a chapel in her name.

 This chapel would be used by the people of the community as a pilgrimage place where they could go in groups to pray for good crops, the sick and the needy.

 The chapel is still maintained over the many years by the descendants of the Fred Schmitt family.

 It is sometimes still used for private devotions."
